I will offer you a sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the LORD. (Psalms 116:17 NLT)
What does it mean to offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving? It means to praise God when ‘realistically’ speaking we have no reason to. When it seems our circumstances are not changing. When it seems our prayers are not been answered .
Let me tell you already, this is one of the difficult things you’d ever do . Yes, because you won’t feel like it .
How did I know? Let’s just say I learnt this few years ago. I had no clear reason to thank God. In fact, my life looked shattered before my very eyes and going to church became more of a routine (hopefully, I’ll share this experience in a post).
But all in all, I realized that even though it was a very difficult thing to do, I was better off offering God a sacrifice of thanksgiving than complaining or throwing fits.
I think this attitude honors God and shows that we are not moved by sight or circumstances but rather by faith in God.
And yes, in due time, everything that looked shattered were fixed like a puzzle before my eyes. Looking back now, I can honestly say I have every reason to thank God 🙌.
So, are you at the place I was few years ago? Where it seems nothing is changing for you and you’re tempted to throw fits and complain?
Well, should I advise you? Don’t go that route .
Instead, follow David’s suggestion and offer God a sacrifice of thanksgiving. You’d be glad you did 🏃🏾.
