Ever found yourself in a situation where after God spoke to you, you try to ask other people for confirmation? Well you’re not alone .
It happened to me some months back. After my conversations with Big J which led to the blog post ‘Where do you really think you’re going’ (click here to read). Very early one fateful morning, I was at work and I was just itching to talk to someone about what I ‘thought’ God was telling me. Truth was, I had never heard anyone preach with what I wrote and I just wanted some sort of confirmation from a ‘human being’ so I know I am not going crazy. If you know what I mean. LMAO.
Then I picked my phone and decided to call two people and ask for confirmation, just the moment I pressed ‘call’, I clearly heard something from the inside ‘ask Me’. I was like ‘Jesu, I want to ask a ‘human being’ . Then He continued ‘You want confirmation that you’re not hearing voices, ask Me’. While this was very difficult for me (to be honest), I decided to really trust God to confirm that I’m not the one speaking to myself and calling it ‘God’ .
So I simply asked God what I would have asked a human being ‘Father, that revelation about the blog post I wrote, was it really you? You know it involves a major decision in my life and I cannot afford to get it wrong. It would be too grave. Please help me and tell me if it’s you or not’.
Brace yourself. The next thing that happened was very emotional to me. The kind of scriptures God led me to made me go .
Few days after this prayer, I was just reading the Bible and when I saw the scriptures, everything in me melted ‘literally’. Not Kidding.
“[Yet] first [you must] understand this, that no prophecy of Scripture is [a matter] of any personal or private or special interpretation (loosening, solving). For no prophecy ever originated because some man willed it [to do so–it never came by human impulse], but men spoke from God who were borne along (moved and impelled) by the Holy Spirit.” – 2 Peter 1:20-21
When I saw this, to be honest I trembled like ‘OMG’. God, is real. And He hears. And He speaks . Like everyone else when I pray, I expect God to respond but when He finally does I act surprised again like ‘God you really can hear me’. Lmao . Then I’ll answer myself ‘Duh, of course He can. He’s not deaf. ‘ 😊.
For days I couldn’t seem to get over 2 Peter 1:20-21. I was just basking in that revelation like ‘Jesus. Whoa. Whoa’.
But that wasn’t the end, while I was still meditating on the above, God showed me another ‘bombshell’. I can’t even explain how. All I know is, I was led to another section of the New Testament and what I had before me was MIND BLOWING.
“But as for you, the anointing (the sacred appointment, the unction) which you received from Him abides [permanently] in you; [so] then you have no need that anyone should instruct you. But just as His anointing teaches you concerning everything and is true and is no falsehood, so you must abide in (live in, never depart from) Him [being rooted in Him, knit to Him], just as [His anointing] has taught you [to do].” 1 John 2:27.
So, if like Arinola, God spoke to you and for whatever reason you want some sort of confirmation, don’t go to anyone else. Go to the one that gave you the message in the first place. He’s more than happy to give you the clarity you need .
And don’t get me wrong, this is not me saying you don’t need to talk to people, absolutely not. This is me saying, sometimes when God talks to us and we run to others for confirmation He permits it but it gets to a point where He tries to bring us to a higher level where more trust is required. Where He wants us to believe that because ‘we are His sheep, we know and recognize His voice’.
And trust me, you’re not deaf. If you can hear other people when they talk to you then you can hear God when He speaks .
You just need to believe you can .
